Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if I can’t find the product I’m searching for?

If the product you need is not listed on our website please feel free to email us at contact@thepharmpetco.co.uk or call us on 01522 692231. We’ll do our best to order the product for you, and a member of our friendly team will talk you through the simple process you need to follow for a product not listed on the website.

Why do I need a prescription?

Certain products can only be prescribed by a qualified Veterinary Surgeon. These products are classified as Prescription Only Medicines – Veterinary (also known as POM-V). We require a legally valid veterinary prescription for this classification of product prior to dispensing and dispatching.

How do I get a prescription?

If your vet decides that your pet requires a prescription only medicine, you can simply request a written prescription from them, which the law states they are required to provide to you.

Can my vet charge me for writing a prescription?

Yes, a veterinary surgeon can charge a ‘reasonable’ fee for writing a prescription. In our experience this is around £15 but it can be more or less than this. Even with this fee, you’re still likely to save money by ordering your pet’s medication with us.

How can I send my prescription electronically to you?

You can upload your prescription via the website as part of the checkout process or, if preferred you can email it to us at prescriptions@thepharmpetco.co.uk or fax it to 01522 692231.

When emailing or faxing your prescription to us please write your order number at the top of the prescription to help us match it against your account.

Please note that for some medication (eg Controlled Drugs) we need to be in receipt of the original valid prescription prior to dispatch, and so we will require you to post the original prescription to us. The website will inform you if this is the case.

Where should I send my original prescription to?

Where we require (or you choose to send) an original prescription by post, please write your order number at the top of the prescription and send it to:

The PharmPet Co,
Unit 7 Stirlin Point,
Sadler Court,
Sadler Road,
Lincoln,
LN6 3RG

How long is a prescription valid for?

Most prescriptions are valid for 6 months from the signed date, however your veterinary surgeon may specify a shorter expiry date.  The other exception to this is controlled drugs, which have a maximum validity of 28 days from the signed date.

What is a repeat prescription?

A repeat prescription can be dispensed multiple times whilst it is valid. Following a clinical assessment your veterinary surgeon will decide on the appropriateness for issuing a repeat prescription. If deemed appropriate, they will clearly state how many times the prescription can be dispensed against, and for what quantity.

If you have previously sent us a repeat prescription, your remaining allowable quantity for any valid prescriptions that we hold can be  found in ‘My Prescriptions’ within ‘My Account’. When you place your repeat order just select the previously named prescription which we hold on file for you as part of the checkout process.

Why do I need to create a pet profile?

Here at The PharmPet Co the safe and accurate supply of medication to you for your pet is essential for us. In order to help us do this we will require information about your pet. We capture this information via a Pet Profile that we require you to fill in for every pet you request POM-V, POM-VPS and NFA-VPS medication for.

When required we may contact you and/or your veterinary surgeon directly if we require any further information regarding your pet before we can dispatch your order.
